RAD Pre-Primary & Primary Ballet

Pre-Primary Ballet - 5-6 years (Kindy at school)
Primary Ballet - 6-7 years (Year 1 at school)
Pre-Primary and Primary in Dance follow the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) syllabus and are progressions from preschool ballet classes. The RAD is an internationally recognised organisation in classical ballet education. They provide a strong foundation for higher levels of ballet or other dance style later in life.
Your child will learn the fundamentals of ballet technique within short exercises and dances – these are all presented in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We begin to use a natural turnout position, encourage length and line throughout the body and develop strength through the core with good posture. Your dancer will also love the use of props and learning about stage craft in these fun classes. As well at set exercises, we focus on a different Classical ballet each term so the children can gain further understanding of ballet outside of class.
Skills such as motor control, musicality, recall, coordination and control are some of the many learning outcomes for this class.

Age: 5 - 8 years
Junior Jazz classes are a great way for your dancer to develop their movement skills and have fun dancing to upbeat, popular music!
These classes begin with a cardio and strengthening warm up to pop music, often with some games to get the children really moving! We then build on basic jazz technique such as kicks, turns, jumps and leaps. These are performed in sequences moving across the room and we begin to develop strong lines, good posture and awareness of performance skills. We end the class by learning a dance routine - this gives the children a chance learn about stage craft, build confidence by performing to peers and also the option to add some improvisation.
Your child will develop confidence and body awareness as well as building on strength, flexibility and stamina. We encourage teamwork in some sequences so they have a chance to make new friends too.
As with all classes a wide range of props such as rainbow streamers, pom poms and instruments are used to enhance the learning experience. Your dancer will be so excited to show you their new skills and dance routine at home!

Junior Jazz
RAD Grade 1 Ballet
Age: 7-8 years (Year 2 in school)
Grade 1 Ballet Classes are RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) syllabus and are progressions from Primary. The RAD is an internationally recognised organisation in classical ballet education. They provide a strong foundation for higher levels of ballet or other dance style later in life.
Your dancer will build upon the fundamentals of ballet technique as exercises are more complex and require further coordination and musicality. We now expect children to have a good understanding of posture, length and line through the body and expressive movements – there are still lots of opportunities for improvisation in this class too.
We begin Character Work at this level in the form of Russian National dance. This is an integral part of classical ballet and a fun new challenge for the students in terms of musicality and style. With training exercises in partners or groups, your child will develop their social and teamwork skills.
Set exercises are worked on throughout the year building to an exam or class award (both optional) where children are given the opportunity to perform their work in a rewarding setting.

Junior Tap
Age: 5 - 7 years
Our Junior Tap classes are great for children who love to dance and make lots of noise! Tap dancing focuses the mind to one area of the body and develops attention span, listening skills and awareness of line and space.
Based around the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) tap syllabus, your child will learn basic tap technique steps such as shuffles and ‘paradiddles’ during the warm up. We then practice moving steps such as step ball change, ball and heel walks and pick ups in a sequence travelling across the room and finish class by learning a dance routine to pop music. There’s always time for some rhythm games too – we encourage the children to use different tones and dynamics within their beats, developing their musicality.
